ALMERIA University recently took part in an information day as part of World Aids Day.

The territorial delegate for Equality, Health and Social Policies, José María Martín, attended the stall and said: “Unfortunately, AIDS has no cure, but scientific advances have been great in recent years.”

Almeria Province recorded 68 new cases of HIV infection, of which 20 pre cent were in people under 30 years.

While infection remains rare, with those affected by the virus at 9.66 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 94 per cent of cases are undetectable for years after infection.

Awareness and safe sex were the principal themes being stressed.
