THE Guardia Civil has arrested 12 people and recovered 43 vehicles which were stolen in Europe – 33 of them dismantled – as they arrived in Spain.

The operation was undertaken simultaneously at the ports of Algeciras, Alicante, Almeria, Barcelona, Malaga, Motril, Tarifa and Valencia.

The Guardia Civil, specialists of the Austrian Police, French National Gendarmerie, Republican National Guard of Portugal and the consortium GIE-Argos worked together with the aim of preventing the cars from reaching North Africa.

Twelve were arrested in operation, and of the 43 vehicles stolen, 33 were found dismantled.

This year the Guardia Civil has recovered more than 17,000 stolen vehicles.
